I wanted to broaden my use of mediums for these pieces. I was drawing onto extremely rough surfaces, so I used different sized ink markers and permanent markers, rather than standard pens. To suit the style of the skateboards, I wanted to convey a "cool" theme in both pictures, using the exoticness of the chosen animals, and the relaxation found in the pattern and detail of a mandala.
I wanted to expand upon the use of a mandala; using a coat of white spray paint to create the burst effect. Then, detailing the patterns of the mandala, using different colour of marker to counter each area of the spray paint.
I wanted both of these illustrations to reflect a mixture of tattoo styles, using specific detail and line to blend neo-traditional and blackwork. The second piece expresses this idea, as the composition uses different thicknesses of line, contrasting with the faint permanent marker outlines on the outside, and inner shapes of the lion.
